THE SOURCE FOR DIELECTRIC ISOLATION
Dielectric Solutions, Inc. (DSI) is a specialized silicon materials company in San Jose, California that provides high quality dielectrically isolated silicon substrates to mainstream manufactures of integrated circuits. With origins traced to 1980, DSI is a specialized company dedicated to providing one of the earliest forms of silicon on insulator technology. This process, known as dielectric isolation, was developed over four decades ago to provide radiation resistant integrated circuits for military programs.

In addition DSI provides:
  • Thick polycrystalline depositions for both silicon wafers and mechanical components
  • Custom substrates related to composite silicon structures
DI technology has an interesting property in that each active transistor is electrically insulated from its surroundings by a layer of glass. Because of this characteristic, this substrate material has found a variety of applications, including:

  • High speed/low noise precision operational amplifiers
  • Military guidance systems
  • Low power consumer products
  • High voltage switching functions for telecom
  • Matched bipolar structures
  • High temperature environments

DSI also provides precision silicon grinding services as well as epitaxial and thick film polysilicon deposition and consults on custom materials processes.

DSI is actively pursuing low cost, high precision SOI material based on custom equipment and processes.

Dielectric isolation provides unique performance advantages compared to other technologies in that prior to the completion of the substrate there is an opportunity to form "P" type pockets adjacent to "N" doped regions. In addition, highly doped buried subcollectors may be implanted in what will ultimately become the bottom of the active device layers. This is done to reduce collector series resistance for complimentary bipolar linear circuits, resulting in increased speed advantages.
